Excellent resource at a difficult time
I was totally clueless about what I needed to do after my brother died, we learned he had no will, & I became executor for his estate. I’m found this book to be a helpful step-by-step guide as well as a resource for learning legal terminology. It has also given me info to prepare possible ?s I need to discuss with the lawyer (so I don’t use expensive lawyer time asking random things that I know nothing about). Book has also kept me from wandering around internet rabbit-holes that aren’t relevant to the estate. Topics are well organized & in plain language. After 3 weeks handling the estate, I’m much more organized & things are proceeding smoothly. One very important thing: I’m learning a lot about planning my own estate, & will be comfortable knowing that settling my affairs will be easier for my family.

Uncomplicated; comprehensive reading! It was a good buy!
The task of preparing a will is very daunting. I was ready to give up and hire a lawyer for my small estate. This book addressed all of my concerns and then some. There is even a section for information on each state's laws. I know what I need to do now. The book will now go to the executor of my estate. He will appreciate the comprehensive coverage of each subject.

Great Information to get you going!
Nolo has been offering great information for years and this is no exception. There is a lot to un pack and there are things to learn. This is a great overview and a very good place to start if you are making of changing your Will or Trust. If the steps in this book are followed the people administering your trust when you are gone will have an easy path to doing what you want with less time and effort. It is good for Successor Trustee and Beneficiaries alike.

The guide I was looking for
This book is written for those who will act as the trustees and executors of our estate, which in our case are our very able daughters. But for that reason it is also essential for those of us preparing the way for our trustees and executors. What documents must be drawn up (e.g., our will and marital trust, our listing of successor trustees and our executor), what lists must be drawn up and kept up-to-date (e.g. all of our assets, and contact information for the institutions that are sometimes holding them for us) and much, much more. This book even directed us to downloadable forms for the lists we should make to allow the estate to be managed efficiently, and the advice on the selection and use of estate lawyers is extremely valuable. Do we (or do our trustees and executors) want an estate lawyer to do the whole thing ($$$$)- or should we seek an "unbundled" arrangement in which the daughters do a good part of the work and the lawyer the rest ($$)? Answering that question properly can save large sums and also make sure our appointees won't be overly burdened. Again, this book is exactly what I wanted. Note that for those who want a deeper plunge into the legal end of Wills, Estates, and Trusts we found one very good book of that name (by Alexander Bove and Melissa Langa) was also useful for reference. But we found this one our essential guide.

Outstanding book highly recommend purchase
Valuable information from choosing an attorney for limited representation of estate, timeframe of filing in probate court, how to set up estate bank account. This book provides step-by-step guide of what to do in serving as an executor. I highly recommend this book.

Not very useful
I am probating an estate in California and this is just a bunch of generic answers that you can look up on the internet. The state specific Nolo books are helpful but not updated. I tried the Nolo website with link in book and it was broken.

American rules not UK rules
I learn from the information but the only negative I have that's its American rules not English so it compare state to state when in fact it does not represent British rules

American laws aren't much use in the UK.
I thought this was the UK version. It isn't.

useless
I purchased this in the belief that it would help me. It doesn't. It's for the american market but that isn't clear until you start reading it
