The Last Five Years - Vocal Selections Piano, Vocal and Guitar Chords

So I've been in love with my best friend for literally five years. She and I are both performers that have been in shows together and have always experienced theatre in a very intimate way. When I first saw The Last Five Years, I had just gotten out of my first serious relationship and it helped me process my emotions. Soon after, my best friend also broke up with her boyfriend and I showed her this musical and we cried together. It was a great time. She just graduated high school and is going to college for vocal performance and is always practicing singing. She has a voice that makes you cry just because of how sincere the lyrics sound and how clear her notes carry. So I bought this Vocal Selection for her, and once again we cried and it was great. This also inspired me to start taking piano and vocal lessons again so that I might be able to sing for her sometime. 5/5 for sure.

I appreciate the authenticity of this book. The music is very detailed and unabridged. That being said, there are many sections of songs that I'd love to sing along with while I play that are extremely difficult. Chords are written above the staff in many sections of the book, but others are left out. I like having chords for when I'm lazily playing and want to sing along with the song without having to take the time to learn and practice an entire piece. Especially when it comes to music like this that is very dynamic and complex.

It's hard to play, it's hard to sing, but I love this musical and it's been fun working my way through this book. Someone else mentioned it's probably a bit much to ask someone to sight read, and I would probably agree... but I don't consider myself an expert on the topic.

This book has all of the wonderful music from this fantastic show, and I used it more than once for auditions. Beware, though... the piano is pretty challenging in parts. I learned this the hard way at a couple of auditions. It might be too much to expect your accompanist to sight read. Great to find performance pieces for cabarets etc!

Had the chance to perform in concert with the one and only Jason Robert Brown and wanted something I could have him sign to commemorate the event! This is my second copy of this score and although missing a couple songs from the show, it’s still my favorite!

I love this musical! This book has many of the best songs from this show, especially for a recital or audition. I just wish it included "See I'm Smiling"

Some people were complaining about "Climbing Uphill"/"When you come home to me" but it is all there and you can choose where to cut for her audition song if you wanted to use it for your own audition. Most of these are too long to take to an audition anyway. I enjoy it!

The music and lyrics from this show are just genius. So beautiful, smart and heartbreaking. My one and only disappointment from the book was that "See I'm Smiling" wasn't in it. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars. Shipped right away, good price, and received it before the estimated delivery date.

The whole musical has a wonderful concept - a relationship from beginning to end over 5 years, told by both parties. The songs are emotional - raw and real and true to life. Each song is wonderful on its own, but woven together the story is beautiful and tragic at the same time.Particular favourites of mine include "Till You Come Home To Me", "Still Hurting", "If I Didn't Believe In You", and "The Schmuel Song".
