ToroRecycler 21466 22-Inch 60 V Battery Self-Propelled Lawn Mower

I had high hopes when I decided to invest in the Toro Flex Force 60v Personal Pace Lawn Mower. I was drawn to its promise of convenience and space-saving design, perfect for storing upright in my garage. However, my experience with it has left me deeply disappointed and questioning my decision. I find myself trying to justify to my wife why we should replace it with the new gas version featuring SmartStow, despite the significant investment in this model.First and foremost, the power output of this mower is laughable. It struggles even with the simplest of tasks, leaving patches of uncut grass behind like a forgetful barber. It lacks the oomph needed to tackle thicker grass or weeds, making every mowing session a frustrating exercise in futility. Adding insult to injury, the grass bagging attachment is practically useless. Despite its size, it cannot efficiently pick up the grass clippings, leaving a messy trail behind and forcing me to go over the same spots multiple times just to achieve a mediocre result. The electric motor does not have enough power to push the clippings to the back of the bag, which causes them to get stuck at the front, clogging the mower and causing it to constantly run in “High Power Mode” which further depletes the already disappointing battery.On that note, let's talk about the battery life. It's advertised to be able to cut a ½ acre, and up to 40 minute run time. In reality, it cannot hold up for a single mow of my ¼ acre, mostly flat, lawn. For example, I started today and after 19 minutes, the battery was already depleted and the mower stopped, causing me to need to stop what I was doing to go fetch another 10lb paperweight. I have purchased additional Toro 60v lawn tools, which thankfully gave me a total of 3 6.0ah batteries and an additional 2.5 ah battery. It takes me switching between all 4 batteries just to get the mowing portion of my yardwork finished.Thankfully, the chargers are somewhat quick, so, once I finish the mowing portion, I can do the additional yard tasks without too much delay. This may be because it takes additional time to mow, due to the repeated emptying of the 1/3 way full bags (see earlier portion of the review about the stellar bagging capability of this mower). I should not need to empty the bag of my mower 14 times during one session. I will concede that it is currently (3/22/2024) peak grass growing season in my area (Charlotte, NC), and the grass is thick and grows quickly. I will however note that I mowed my grass 4 days ago, so it’s not like I was trying to chop down a pasture with this underpowered mower.I have owned many gas-powered mowers from Toro in the past, and have been extremely happy with them. I specifically went with Toro as opposed to other competitors, based on their reputation, along with steel construction and the fact it looked more like a traditional mower.Overall, the Toro Flex Force 60v Personal Pace Lawn Mower has failed to meet my expectations. From its underwhelming battery life to its inadequate power and ineffective grass collection system, it simply doesn't deliver on its promises. If you're in the market for a reliable mower, I recommend looking elsewhere.
