Divine
Walkers Strathspey Rich Fruit Cake — truly the Dowager Countess of desserts. One does not merely nibble this cake, one experiences it, preferably with a sherry in one hand and disdain for lesser puddings in the other. The marzipan topping is as smooth as a Highland lullaby, and the cake itself? Positively brimming with juicy vine fruits and a hint of scandal. Now, I must confess (clutching pearls theatrically) — it was so divine, so utterly scrumptious, I marched straight back and ordered another one… or perhaps several. One cannot, after all, risk a fruitcake famine during times of civilised tea-taking. And might I add, it arrived beautifully boxed, as if it were a Christmas truce offering from the Scottish highlands themselves.Five stars, a standing ovation, and a small curtsy from me. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a slice awaiting its destiny beside a proper cuppa.

Not at all like the crappy US fruitcakes you remember
Purchased via Amazon to add to my dessert spread this Christmas. To say that for the most part, Americans despise fruitcake - is an understatement. We actually have fruitcake throwing contests in some areas to physically demonstrate our hatred of the stuff. Alas, like so many other things, its the cheap low quality nature of the fruitcake created in the US that is the etiology of this disdain. I am blessed to be married to a French Canadian who grew up eating cakes of much higher quality. Due to his encouragement I decided to wade into the waters of European products and I'm SO glad I did! This cake is rather small, but is very dense and rich. Out of the wrapping it fits on a medium sized plate and slices cleanly without fall apart. I sliced into about 10 peices then laying it on its side I drizzled about 1.5 ounces of brandy over the cake. It soaked in nicely without getting at all soggy. Even my 8 year old nephew liked it! My family literally groaned aloud when I told them this was a fruitcake but everyone who tried it loved it, including myself. The taste is rich, heavy on the raisins and cloves but not overly so. There is none of that awful candied fruit taste that is common is the US.You have to try this stuff!

Delicious
Reminded me of the old fashioned Christmas cake I grew up with. Firm with a good layer of marzipan and icing on the top. Well wrapped.

Stale marzipan
Wasn’t too good as the marzipan tasted stale and couldn’t return.

It taste just like my mum used to make it.
The cake and icing are very authentic. The only problem is addictive, I have ordered three. A bit expensive but worth it.

If you like British fruit cake then you’ll love this! A wee bit pricey but some things are just worth it 🙂

A No Go
I have purchased Walkers item for some time, and like them all. . . Except for this. It was quite dry and lacking in flavor. For the price it was a big disappointment. Change quite dry to very dry. Perhaps this is just the Scottish way and I am expecting an American style, moist fruitcake. I will add Walkers ginger cookies are to die for with lovely pieces of ginger!

Perfect…almost
This cake has the perfect proportions of fruit cake, marzipan, and royal icing. The cake is moist and reminded me a lot of my mother’s. My only complaint was that the cake needed more cherries.
