Map of Hawai‘i: The Big Island (Reference Maps of the Islands of Hawai‘i)

We bought this trip for our vacation to the Big Island. Was incredibly useful in navigating, finding out towns along the way, where parks and beaches are, and even the years of each lava flow are on this map. I'm a big picture person, and while it's great to have a smart phone, it's not helpful if you don't have cell service or you want a visual of the whole island.This is a great deal for anyone who lives or is planning to visit, highly recommend it.

I'm fussy about maps. The Department of Defense taught me about maps and what makes them good. This one has detail and accuracy and a very good legend. That's what makes a good map. It's not cheap. The cheap ones won't tell you much of anything so go for the best, like this one.

This map has everything I was looking for. It identifies all of the major geographical features, cities, streets, beaches, botanical gardens etc., clearly, and is easy to use. Good legend and street reference. Nice size and waterproof.

We used version 4 of this map for years and it was great. It's published by the University of Hawaii and is detailed. This updated version covers every little road. If you are still into "paper" maps, this is the one.

This map provides more information than the maps in the tour books but it is not a complete roadmap which is what I was looking for.

I know everything map-related can be found on smart phones, but I found this very helpful nonetheless. Something about spreading out a map that helps really understand the lay of the land. Between this map and the WAZE iPhone app, there was nothing on the island we didn’t feel we could find.

Work better than GPS or your phone. Satellite and mobile phone service is spotty in some of the more remote locations on the big island. This map makes that fact unimportant. We used the map daily. The detail and the ease of use helped us to find where we were going and to know where we were when our electronics did not.

This is the sort of map someone like me uses and needs. Little bits of info like elevation, features and roads. Put out by University of Hawaii, so I expected excellent detail.
