This is an excellent method book for a beginning trumpet player. I used this book over 50 years ago when I started playing trumpet. I'm using the same book to help my neighbor's child who just started playing a few months ago. It uses an old school approach to teach trumpet. Fingering chart in the front of the book is extremely helpful. This Rubank book kind of pushes the student a long rather than spending a lot of time on whole notes (although whole tones are excellent for developing the muscles in the lips and breathing). My student is already reading better and getting a nice full sound as well as playing up to an F. The book also shows the proper way to count music and makes it easy for me to explain time and key signatures.I highly recommend this book for any beginning trumpet or cornet student.

Was forced to use this book as a teen. Haven't had a chance to play in 35 years, but finally forced myself to start practicing. Great going back through somewhat familiar material when starting over. Better book than I remember, because now I want to play trumpet more than guitar.....

As a beginner, this book has become a key part of my practice routine. It is an old style method book with a very large number of exercises. This was just what I needed to improve my fingering, lip flexibility and especially sight reading.The only major problem with this book is that it advances too quickly into the upper register. As a beginning player, this means that it is not possible to fully play many exercises. (I recommend The Embouchure Builder, also available on Amazon to help with building range).The book has very little in the way explanations, nor does it have many tunes to play. For this reason, I suspect it might not be interesting enough for very young players who might benefit from a more breezy modern method book with more musical exercises.You wouldn't want to use this book by itself. But if you are serious about learning the cornet or trumpet, it is well worth the six dollar price to have it in your collection of method books.

Since it was labeled Elementary I thought it might be at a very beginners level. It has 3 pages of blowing notes - nothing about if you play the first and third button which note that would be. Learning to play the notes is one way to playing music later. I almost returned it but decided to tough it out and see what I could do. I know when I first started to playing in the 8th grade out instruction books did not look like this one.

I've been trying to self-train on the trumpet during the pandemic and went looking for a good workbook for beginners that offers step-wise exercises for improvement and range extension. This slim book is what I hoped it would be.

I like the Rubank method series, and it is theirs that I am always attracted to when looking over various other choices at the music store. I have used their series for flute for many years and found it more than adequate to keep me at my desired level of playing. I believe this cornet/trumpet series is as good.

Every trumpet player needs to complete this book. It's timeless and allows you to progress on your own, at your own pace, if that's what you have to do.

It is a great book of exercises to develop skills of playing brass instruments and build on range and stamina
