A Sewer's Guide to Notions
This book is a virtual catalog of tools that every seamstress or dressmaker needs in order to be successful. Granted, some of the items are more specialized, like tools specific to embroidery or quilting, but each item is categorized, as well as being fully described and illustrated, so you'll know whether it's something you need or not. Many of the items shown are standard tools that you simply cannot sew without, such as shears, chalk pencils, pins, and so forth. But then there's tools that not everyone knows about, such as bias tape makers, bodkins, specialty presser feet, and so forth. My only complaint is that the book occasionally feels like an advertisement for Nancy's Notions. Some of the tools described are made exclusively by Nancy's Notions, so it seems like she's using the book as a platform to sell more of her products. I can forgive this, since many of the exclusive products are, in fact, quite useful tools to have. (But geeze! They're expensive!)I'll give "Nancy's Favorite 101 Notions" four stars, subtracting a star for the blatant advertising. Otherwise, it's a very useful book for those who are just learning to sew. Even if you're more advanced, you might want to take a look and see if there's any sewing tools you've overlooked. I keep a copy in my sewing library, just so I can loan it to my students.

A useful glossary of sewing notions, how to use them, and how effective they are.
Have you ever wandered through the notions department of your local fabric store, wondering what some of the tools do, or how well they work? I am always looking for new sewing notions to make my projects easier and better. This book includes photos, descriptions and uses for 101 notions. No matter how experienced a sewer you may be, you will probably discover something new, that you can no longer do without.

Emjoy This Book
This is a great book for newbies or oldsters alike. You can always pick up a new hint or a bit of new information. This book, particularly has the reasons why you need certain notions to make your sewing a bit quicker and easier. There are so many new things on the market that our mothers who sewed didn't have. It's fun to review them and learn what's out there.this book was published a while ago but for the price, wanted to buy it so I could go over them again. Sometimes we forget the notions that help us.

Having the right tool for the job makes all the difference!
I love to make stuff my most recent passion is sewing and I always believe that having the right tools for the task at hand makes the job easier. Nancy has a proven record not only of sewing as a professional, but as an excellent teacher. I love looking at all the different things, learning what they are for, and reading what she recommends. I like this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants a good reference of all the different tools one can use for sewing.

Very useful
I used to watch Nancy on PBS and always loved her way of sewing and constructing. So when I saw this book by her I knew it was a MUST have for my sewing library. I've only glanced through it but I know there are some great ideas and information in it.

Good Information.
Good source of information. Not sure if all of the items suggested can be sourced in the UK. Some items are very desirable as they take out some f the awkwardness such ad the notch cutter and the concertina style buttnhole spacer. Will ptobably need to search the internet for these. Overall good for tutorial sessions.
