Works and is quiet

Mine has only been on for 300 miles. I’m still shaking out a new Jeep build. I have a Weber carb which requires low pressure. I mounted this under the hood, which is not the way it’s intended to be used. I suppose everyone knows that they are pushers and not pullers. However, I wanted easy access to the pump and have a gauge on it to see the fuel pressure just by raising the hood. I put a heavy duty piece of 2” hose between the pump mount and the chassis to eliminate any vibes and I have none. I can’t hear the pump running even at idle. I have no pressure regulator and it sits at 3psi, perfect for my application. I only have 300 miles on it so far but have no problems. I did install the recommended low oil pressure shut off, and it does cut the pump off as it should when I unplugged it (cuts power to pump).

Great quality, bit stubborn on the install, but worth it.

This pump kicks man. I have a ford F-150 with a 302 fed by a 4 barrel holley 650, was having issues I couldn't figure out. Turned out the previous owner had use a cheap pump from oreillys to try and feed a V-8 (they are intended for lawn equipment/boats lol) I ordered this based on reviews and no more problems, and I should be able to use it later as I scale up my internals. Only con is getting the fittings to seal initially. I put it on and took it off several times trying to get the fittings tight enough that they didn't leak. I had to torque them down so tight I was certain the casing would crack. It didn't but man it was a pain (the instruction expressly state not to use Teflon or other sealants). Also something that wasnot an issue on my truck, but could be on smaller platforms was size, this is a larger unit and has to be mounted upright. Its a high flow rotary pump, not a small solid state job. It can also be a tad loud, but honestly I rarely hear it over the engine.

Good fuel pump for low pressure applications.

I needed a fuel pump after an engine swap and bought this pump. It is working perfectly. The install was as expected. It has a good mount with rubber grommets, but is still a bit obvious when it is running which is sort of a good thing as the key is turned on, and then is not obtrusive with the engine running. It really does the job. I hope it has a long life which is too early to know at this point.

Great pump, but noisy

Using this as an auxiliary lift pump to pump diesel fuel about 30 ft to the primary fuel pump that’s mounted on a generator. This pump works great and has been 100% reliable so far, after several hundred hours of operation. The reason for dropping it 1 star is because it is loud, emitting a constant monotone mid-frequency sound. It might not sound loud in a diesel engine compartment because it would be just one more noise, but in its own compartment about 30 ft from the engine it is very noticeable.

This pump is made to pump gasoline!

In the product information it says ,it is a diesel pump, which led me to believe i ordered the wrong pump.I called the manufacturer (Carter) and i was told that it is in-fact a gasoline pump. That doesnt mean that it wont work with diesel fuel, but if it was for diesel only , you can not put gasoline through it.So it is a gasoline pump.Works excellent on my boat, in place of the diaphragm pump.

Headache in a box

These pumps are ridiculously bad. In case you think I am maligning a decent parts manufacturer because I slapped a pump into an old clapped out junker with crappy wiring or bad grounds or couldn't figure out the oddball electrical connectors, no, that's not the case--I did everything right, installed it below the tank far from the engine bay, used oversized wire, triple checked everything, making sure the grounds were excellent and the voltage at the pump was within spec and the ground was at 0.0 ohms, and still this pump lasted about an hour. I drove around the neighborhood, was pleased with the pressure (~4.5 PSI), but the next day started the car up and noticed the pump was a bit noisier than it had been the day before, and I could hear it clearly above the idling engine. Now the pressure was 6 PSI, and after about ten minutes it dropped off to less than 1PSI then down to zero and the car died at idle a minute later. I let everything cool off, checked and double checked everything, and restarted it. The same thing happened. I even measured the temperature of the pump, to make sure it wasn't heating up. I repeated this process a few times, then removed it, put in another brand new identical pump I'd bought for a backup, and the second pump was even worse, making about 1 PSI. The car would starve for fuel at anything over idle. The second pump was quieter than the first, but still sounded "off," not at all healthy. I can't be sure, but I suspect Carter pulled the old trick of moving manufacturing overseas to a factory with inadequate quality control, and are simply getting people to buy these pumps based on familiarity and brand recognition because they are technically OEM for several models. I would be surprised if Carter are in business in five years if they keep building parts like this. I would use anything rather than one of these pumps again, Holley, Mr. Gasket, Facet, or even some no-name knockoff. This is the worst pump I have ever seen, worse than garbage because it almost sort of wants to work, and if you didn't have a pressure gauge you'd be left scratching your head. FYI, I installed a Facet pump and everything works fine.

No regulator needed

This pump is an easy bolt on and did not need a regulator. It stays at a good 4 psi under throttle and I have a blower on a Chevy small block 350. Try to hang it at tank level or lower.
