Love them; hope the discussion of fit helps you
After reading many reviews I bought a pair of these pants. When they arrived the first thing I noticed was the weight of the package. The pants are heavy, and that is a good thing. If you are considering buying them, it probably isn't because you want to wear them in Hawaii. Many prior reviews discuss fit issues. IMHO, there are three dimensions that you should know when buying pants: the waist, the inseam, and the outseam. Most online sites provide only the waist and inseam. I think many of the issues that people report with these pants are perhaps due to a longer outseam. The outseam, in case you are not familiar with this term, is the measurement from the top of the waistband to the bottom of the leg. As the outseam increases, all else the same, the pant either sits higher and higher on your waist, or the crotch migrates to your knees. I measured the inseam and it is exactly what the manufacturer says it is. I compared the outseam to that of some other jeans (Levi 505, and 506) that I own. The outseam of these Carhartt pants is about an inch longer. If you then wear them an inch higher on your waist, the length should be fine. However, if like me you suffer from MSD (midsection bulge or CBB chronic beer belly), a common problem, then your waistline may increase rapidly the higher on your waist you wear the pant. I you buy your normal waist size, this forces you to wear it lower, and then makes the pants seem too long. May I suggest that you measure your "waistline" when wearing pants that fit, and then measure it an inch higher. If those measurements differ, you may want to go with one of two strategies. The first would be to buy your normal waist and take the length an inch less than you normally do. My pants are slightly long, but since 30" is the shortest inseam available, I really didn't have any option. Alternatively, choose your normal inseam and increase the waist size so the pant can sit comfortably a bit higher on your waist. I hope the information on the fit is useful to you.The pants appear to be sturdy, well constructed, and I get the sense that they will last for a long time. As others have noted, the legs are roomy. I don't particularly enjoy the sausage casing look. There are several other features worth pointing out. The front pockets are fairly deep, which is a great thing if you don't like losing things like keys and change from your pockets. There are seven belt loops. More and more often pants are being made with only five. The added warmth of the flannel is evident but not overwhelming, and what I wanted. There are some smaller side pockets in the leg. An iPhone 4, 5, or SE, even with a case, and an iPod fit; I doubt that a Samsung or iPhone 6 would fit. These are not elegant pants by any means, but they meet my needs very nicely.

They last SO long!
My husband only has 2 pairs of these for every day use, every single time he leaves the house. The only jeans he wears, ever. Outrageous I know. But I bought 2 pairs, over 2 years ago and just barely had to purchase 2 more to replace those and the only thing wrong was that he had broken 2 or 3 belt loops on each pair and the color had faded from wear. No other holes or tearing or anything. To be fair he doesn’t do excessive hard work in them like construction or mechanic work or anything but he does move freight 2-3 days a week. He’s 6 foot 4 and the 40x34 fit him just right, the hem hits right at the ankle and bunches only a little bit when he’s got his boots on so they don’t look excessively long. The waist fits a bit tight at first but after 2 days of work he’s having to pull them up every so often. Quality pants and well worth their money.

Good pants…. BUT:
Probably my most “disappointing” of several Carhartt items.Firstly, most Carhartts I have to size up on, these seem a bit truer to size than the several other pair I have. It threw me a bit, as I’d probably have been fine getting my actual size. Fortunately, I wear a belt.I’m not going to say these are bad pants. They are Carhartt pants and aside from what I already mentioned, they’re pretty solid and remind me of the unlined relaxed fit. Good strong canvass. Fits and moves as good as any pants I’ve ever worn. You could easily go from work, to hiking, to climbing, and even to the dojo. This said, while the lining is a nice touch, I suppose, and rolling it up at the ankles adds a pretty cool flavor, if you’re looking for warmth, these really aren’t any better than your average canvass. I don’t think my summer cotton T-shirts are as thin as the lining material, and it certainly doesn’t compare in any way to even my cheapest, thinnest flannel shirts. It could be softer and I can’t imagine it adds more than 2 or 3 degrees to its warmth value. If you want a bit of style and apparent quality just based on the fact that they are lined - these are good pants. If you wanted them for warmth? Just go ahead and spend the extra $20 or so on the Fleece lined which, while a little more restrictive in the knee and thigh (maybe the cut, maybe the thickness of the fleece, or maybe a bit of both), are very awesome and actually are warm even without your polypros or longjohns.Tl;dr: They’re good pants, but they are a bit disappointing in regards to what I was getting them for.

Great buy
Very rugged, very durable and super warm, kept the chills off in the wind too fit was a little tight maybe recommended a size up from what you normally would take, but then again I could just be getting a little soggy in the midsection lol.

Inconsistent fit
Materials and construction are good, but the sizing is way off from normal fits. I usually wear a 36/34 (sometimes 38) but I ended up having to go with a 40/30 as the fit at the waist was far too small, and the legs were far too long.
