Clymer makes great manuals and this one is no exception

Not much to say here, this book is indispensable if you own and ride an Airhead BMW. Clymer makes great manuals and this one is no exception. I have owned Airheads ranging all the way from the 1970 R75/5 up to and including a 1992 R100GSPD and this book has earned itself many times over. The internet is a good resource however there is something to be said about having a hard reference you can hold in your hands.

An excellent reference

In restoring a 1976 R90/6, this gave me detailed instructions, illustrations, and specs I didn't find elsewhere. A little tedious at times to find what is applicable to your model, but it's there.

It is a great resource, and I highly recommend that you purchase ...

I am not a mechanic, yet this book is very helpful for me as I work on restoring a 1976 R90/6. It is a great resource, and I highly recommend that you purchase it if you're going to be working on one of these vintage motorcycles. This book covers a large number of years and models, so you will spend a considerable amount of time paging back and forth. This can be annoying when you're hands are greasy. I'm only giving it four starsrather than five because I believe that the image quality of a large number ofthe pictures is poor. You will spend some time trying to discern what is going on in the images.

Clymer BMW R50/50 Motorcycle repair manual 1970-1996

The manual is big and covers a lot. Good pictures and the info is easy to understand. It had my bikes special differences(R65 1980). I don't know how it compares to the real shop manual from BMW as I don't have that but for not so experienced to very experienced it has it all covered.

Right on the mark

Just bought a 1985 BMW R65 LS and this book covers everything I need to get it going and keep it going. The chapters are a logical sequence, the instructions are simple and easy to follow, and they work.Strongly recommend for any 'Airhead'.

Decent price for Manual

I looked and looked and this was the cheapest price I could find. Remember it covers a ton of models and over 25 years. the book has nearly 800 pages so you are getting a lot for the price even if you may no use all of it. Had I to do it over I would still buy it. After all, you can probably get most of your money back out when you are done riding or doing your own maintenance.

Great Book, But Augment with Other Sources

This is my main book on the bench as I rebuild a 1973 R75/5. It's thorough and well-organized in terms of coverage. When it gets down to specifics, however, things can get a little fuzzy. While disassembling my bike, I've found numerous instances where the Clymer manual seems to gloss over how to remove certain parts. It simply says "Remove _________" without further information. Sometimes the answer is not obvious. This can be frustrating, but I'm usually able to find coverage of the procedure elsewhere.Airhead enthusiasts have noted that some of the values (torque values, for example) are not always correct in the Clymer manual. In some cases I've double-checked information in the Clymer manual against information from various forums, websites, and mailing lists on the web before proceeding. There's TONS of information on old BMW Airheads online, and it all makes a good complement to the Clymer manual. The close-up pictures referenced throughout the text are plentiful and very helpful. The step-by-step instructions are usually dead-on, with the caveat I mention above. Overall, this is a solid base to work from. I recommend it highly, and am looking forward to an updated edition.

Great for everyday stuff

Great for what it is. It is not a complete restoration manual but for most every day stuff it is great.

Excellent manual. Very useful, especially re current BMW: 1971 R50/5 frame with 1981 R100RT engine (see 1st pic).
