Good news! Fits discontinued Franke double bowl undermount sink

We purchased the Franke PRK-120 fireclay double bowl undermount sink more than 15 years ago, and it has withstood the test of time. But the bottom grid, the coated stainless steel version, has not done as well. It became dingy/discolored, plus debris and dark grunge managed to find their way under the silicone coating. Unsightly, but not affecting the function of the grid to protect the sink. Franke discontinued the sink and the grid (PK-36C coated stainless version and PK-36S stainless, no coating version) many years ago, leaving owners in the lurch.Took a chance on this stainless steel gird (PR-36S) and, bah-bam, it fits perfectly! Took photos of the old and new grids stacked in the sink, and a solo of the new grid. Old grid off to the recycling bin.

Bigger, better, perfect fit.

Ok this is a really good grid, much better than the old plastic covered one we had, it fits the sink much better, is uncovered stainless, no plastic which degrades and burns with hot pans, bigger gauge stainless, better made, bigger feet protectors and this one has side bumpers which protect the sides of the sink. Overall a much better product. These things are expensive but I could say this is almost a good value vs the old grid. P.S. the picture they show is the old grid, same as what we had. The picture is probably the PR-31 that we've all been buying as the PR-36 all these years. the newer grid is shaped exactly to the sink, you'll be much happier with the new grid. Our sink by the way is the Franke PRX 160 and it fits it perfectly.Edit: The picture of the grid has been updated so it's now the proper picture of the one being sold.

good value for Franke D shape sink

I purchased the "Used - Like New" for $82. I didn't want to spend the full price for a sink grid. I was very pleasantly surprised that the used version was in great condition and I feel better I got a bargain as compared to the new one. Still a lot of money for a sink grid but then again the sink was expensive so I want to protect it. It is very sturdy and it is good thick grid.

For a change, better than expected

For 8 years, we had what we thought was the coated version (PR36C) of this grid. However, what we got when we ordered the uncoated stainless version (PR36S) is not the same size or heft as our old one. Similarly, the picture that accompanies this ad is not shaped like that which we received; it looks like our old one (which I now suspect was a PR31C). All that being said, what we just received is larger, is a perfect fit to our PRX-160 sink - extending to all four walls - and of a far more substantial guage of stainless wire.Time will tell whether an uncoated grid is less of a headache than coated, but I expect so. The coated versions get disgusting after a couple of years - pinpoint holes allowing water and food to accumulate and turn brown under the coating. At these kind of prices, it is not something you want to replace every couple of years. Unlike the coated versions, I expect that I should be able to either hand-scrub or dishwasher the raw stainless.Bottom line: a far more attractive and sturdy tool for the sink bottom than we have ever had.

Overall Significantly Better Than the Earlier Vinyl Coated Version, But Has Some Annoying Drawbacks

After reading other reviews, I thought long and hard about purchasing this Stainless Steel shelf grid replacement for our 10 year old sink. Ultimately we have been glad we did, because of the significant overall benefits over the previous vinyl coated version. However, the Cons noted below are a constant annoyance, so consider them before your purchase.Pros: The Stainless Steel is much easier to clean, will not get moldy, and you can put hot pans and liquids onto it immediately without worrying about damaging the coating. It looks great, and fit our 10 year old sink perfectly.Cons: - The individual rods are thicker by 1/64" (12/64" vs 11/64") and are further apart by 1/4" in each dimension (1-1/2" vs 1-1/4") and almost 1/3" on the diagonal. As a consequence, glasses, cups, and other small objects are unstable unless carefully rested on only the top rods; and smaller items like silverware, bottle caps, and small dish rags fall through noticeably more frequently than they did before. - The lack of a vinyl covering results in more clinking noises when objects are put into the sink.In our opinion, the benefits of the Pros significantly outweigh the annoyances from the Cons. However, Franke could have eliminated virtually all of the cons by using the same gauge and grid spacing as the original but just switching to stainless steel without the vinyl coating. As a result, I deducted one star.

Wish I had bought this sooner

Twenty years ago I purchased a white Franke sink with a White grid. After a few years, the grid got old looking, and I replaced it with the Coated stainless grid. The coating recently started to show its age. It had cut marks on it, and even a run through the dishwasher did not bring it back to life. So, I recently purchased this Uncoated grid. I love it! If I had bought it last time, I would have saved a lot of money......these grids are costly! This Uncoated grid can be washed, and brought back to life, in the dishwasher, and it can withstand a hot pot. In the past I was afraid that someone would unknowingly put a hot pot on the coated grid and melt it. This Uncoated grid should last a long, long time.BTW: This new grid comes with 4 small pieces of clear tubing on the side edges. Because my sink is white, I need to leave these on to prevent the grid from leaving dark marks. If I had a stainless sink, I would probably be able to discard them.

Does not fit my stainless steel sink

No idea what went wrong or was it a quality check failure but the grid does not fit my sink, the top corners protrude too much. Franke customer service did not respond either - this is being returned and i hope someone else dont get the same grid which doesnt fit.For what its worth, it is pretty well made, hefty, no rough edges.
