Excellent game!

I used to play this game when my children were very small (late 70's) and enjoyed it very much. I hadn't seen it for years, so when I found it again I just had to buy it! Now I've got another generation addicted! LOLThe game itself is pretty simple. It's like driving on a road trip. You have to play a Green Light card to go, then you play mile cards: 200 miles, 100 miles, 75 miles, 50 miles or 25 miles. The goal is to be the first player to reach 1000 miles and you try to slow down your opponents by playing cards against them - like you can give them an Accident card and they are stopped until they draw a Repair card to fix it, or you hit them with an Out Of Gas card and they have to get an Extra Tank card before they can go again, etc. There are also 4 Safety cards and each one protects you from a certain Hazard. For example, no one can hit you with a Flat Tire if you have the Puncture Proof Safety card. All in all, it's a lot of fun competition. This is a great game and I'm very happy to see it available once again!

A fun game for anyone really

My girlfriend used to play this game with her friends while she was growing up but somewhere they lost the game. I got this a surprise for her birthday and she loves it. It has the original artwork and the French words on the cards. The cards feel the same as a regular deck. The plastic car/card holder is a little thin so it may crack if it is abused but other than that there is no flaw with it. The game itself involves adding milage up to complete a road trip so it may be good for kids learning to add. The rules are fairly simple and after two hands everyone I have taught has enjoyed it. It takes a few more than two hands to develop a lot of the strategy that can be of use in more competitive crowds but in the end it all boils down to the luck of the cards. This is a great product and one that I will have for a long time to come. I enjoy the gameplay and look forward to playing it when its brought up. I recommend this game families who have kids young or old.

Quality is disappointing, but the game is as good as ever

All the comments about poor production are true. The cards are of generic quality, and the "car shaped" tray is a flimsy joke--nothing like the tray (I think) I remember from the original. No, you don't actually need a tray to play the game, but high quality accessories add to the enjoyment. They don't include a score pad, except a few bound into the instruction book, but you can keep score on any piece of paper, that's no big deal. So you're basically paying for a deck of cards and a rule book. Value? Not really, but I'm so glad to have the game again with the traditional graphics that I'll overlook the deficiencies. But look, Winning Moves Games, why not make a "Collector's Edition" reissue something to be proud of?[Addendum June 22, 2014] My jaw dropped when I saw that some company is now trying to sell this deck of cards for $63.99. I paid $13.80 for it and thought it was overpriced. It is a fun card game, but if you have $64 to spend on a deck of cards, my friend, you are something "special."

Cards just like the original; card dispenser a bit cheap

If you loved Mille Bornes when you were younger, you will take a trip down memory lane looking at the cards which have all the original artwork - the dreaded red "flat tire" card, the happy "roll"m card, and the impressive safety cards, to say the least. If you are unfamiliar with the game, it is fun and easy to play - the object being to be the first player to travel 1000 miles. Along the way, other players will try to stop you with speed limit signs, flat tires, out of gas cards, accident cards, etc.My only complaint is that the red plastic card holder (for new cards and to put discarded cards) is really cheap plastic - like the kind of plastic that you find in packaging for kids toys, not the type of plastic that is hard and would standup to heavy duty use.Other than that, we have loved playing the game.

It's the game you grew up with, and the cards are not flimsy

Hey, it's Mille Bornes. Either you know it, or you don't. If you're like me, you spent a couple years trying to find a deck at a toy store or yard sale and now you're excited to see it on Amazon. There is a cheaper version --  Mille Bornes Card Game  -- with redesigned cards. This Collectors Edition, however, has the original retro graphics with all their funky charm. The cards are not flimsy or cheap. They're on medium stock, but with a linen finish rather than a flat waxy surface. Personally, I find it far superior it to the slippery gloss of mass market playing cards. Perhaps some people think these cards are cheaper or weaker -- they're not, not at all. The tray, however, is not the sturdy green tray it used to be. It's flimsy cheap plastic and won't last twenty years. It probably won't last two years. It appears to have been made from the same stuff used to make disposable plastic cups. When it rips or gets crushed, though, you'll still be able to play Mille Bornes. We enjoy playing Mille Bornes with our young son -- adding the miles is particularly good math practice for kids in grades 1 or 2. To make the game simpler for kids, just play until somebody racks up exactly 1000 miles -- don't worry about the points and score sheets and all that.

A Great Family Card Game

This is an old family card game having a comeback. We taught our kids, and now they're teaching theirs. It's a "road trip" with cards, and the goal is to beat opponents to a finish line of the most "road miles". However, there are "road hazzard cards" drawn from the deck by opponents to stop others from achieving their goal. A player cannot proceed until a "hazzard" is fixed. "Remedy cards" are drawn from the deck in turn. The directions are easy to follow from ages 7-8 and up, but not the least bit boring for teens and adults. The game can be played with two players or more, or with two sets of partners. Two decks can support more partner groups. The game provides hours of laugh-out-loud fun.
