EDIT: While this is my FAV BY FAR litter box, I get a yoga mat, put it horizontally from the middle of the box to the front so there is a LOT of mat on each side to catch any litter. Worked better and is cheaper than other mats I have seen or used. AND I got a blue one to match the box! There are a lot of cheap yoga mats out there. Easy to dump and litter and clean too!_____________________________________________First, most cat experts say get an OPEN box. That's great but if sides are low easy for cats to kick litter out. Not so with this box. And at this price, once or twice a year, I just replace and eventually they do get scratched up on bottom and I just like having new boxes for my tortie, Rowan. OH and also the open boxes are easier to scoop litter out of it, you don't have to take the top off.THIS is the BEST open litter box I've found and I have had a TON of litter boxes over decades.FYI, I got the Petmate Jumbo. They are about the same price or are at this time. Let me save you some time and money. They're about the same price BUT the plastic on the Pureness is sturdier, thicker and BIG POINT, the sides are much higher which means less litter kicked out!Since I do get the plastic litter boxes and they do tend to eventually get scratched and it's just nice to get a new box about twice a year, I just MISTAKENLY ordered the Petmate and am sorry but too much of a hassle to send back and I had already emptied out the Pureness of litter and tossed it, unwrapped the Petmate and thought NO! So when I get another box in six months I will make sure it's the Pureness Giant.

My Concierge and Home Sovereign, Queen Rutabaga, wants the world to know she loathes any catpan with a lid. And ones where she has to make a special effort not to offload over the side of the pan are an affront to feline dignity, creating the impression that these congenitally fastidious creatures just don't give a pile of you-know-what.But catpans such as the one under review have a lowered entry point, but with very high sides, rendering entry easy, making it very difficult for Kitty to have an accident, and keeping turds corraled until the Groom of the Stool makes the rounds. This catpan is also made out of very sturdy material, and may actually outlast both cat and human.For serious proof that this simple polythene tub is the superior catpan, the current reviewer has submitted photos proving that it is the second one of the same sort which Queen Rutabaga has acquired. The first one, shown here beneath the crunch bench, an ideal use of space, is at least a year and a half old; the one by a door is the new one. She has a third, but of a different model. She does prefer this large capacity, high sided design. I asked her to demonstrate her catpan technique in a photo, but she demurred and depurred both, favoring the idea of a nap instead (photo).
