31 Adorable Kitten designs even more detailed than her Cats coloring book – printed one side of the page
The media could not be loaded. I own a number of Marjorie Sarnat's coloring books – the first of which was her cute “Creative Cats”. I've gone through a couple of copies of that book and was longing for more cute cat designs from Ms. Sarnat. “Creative Kittens” is an adorable follow-on to the Cats book. It shows a variety of kittens in cute and playful poses. It reminds me of the four kittens my husband and I rescued and adopted (we also caught their feral mama and neutered and released her back around our house. The kittens were so playful and fun and I get the same feeling from this coloring book.As with all of Ms. Sarnat's coloring books, there is a high level of detail. While there are some small areas to color, I don't consider the designs to be intricate and hard to color. This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium.31 Cute and fun to color kitten designs by Majorie SarnatThe designs are printed one side of the pagePaper is the usual Creative Haven quality: white, medium weight, slightly rough and has perforated pages.Glue Binding but with perforated pages so removing a page is fairly simple. The designs stop well before the perforations and each of the designs has a framing line at the outer edge.Alcohol-based markers bleed through this paperWater-based markers bleed through in spots and show colorful shadows on the back of the pageGel pens and India ink pens leave shadows of color on the back of the page. India ink pens can bleed through when I apply more than one layer of ink.Coloring pencils work well with this paper and even better than many of the more recent Creative Haven coloring books I have bought. I was able to get good pigment (color) lay down, layer the same color and multiple colors and to blend easily using a pencil style blender. I tested both oil and wax-based pencils with similar results. Hard lead pencils, like Verithins, leave dents on the back of the page.I suggest either removing pages from the book to color or using a blotter page under your working page. I like card stock as it keeps ink from seeping through and damaging the pages below.

Lots of variety, super cute, fun designs
This book is fantastic! I’m so pleased with all the designs in this book. I’m a 44 year old woman who took a tremendous amount of art classes in high school. I used Prismacolor pencils back then, and I’m using a new box now. I have a lot of artistic talent and never thought much about the whole “adult coloring book” thing until recently, but I’ve been having a lot of fun with them! I’m playing with gamsol, and having no problems with the paper getting waterlogged or wrinkling up. It’s a heavy, quality paper. I’ve attached a photo of a page I’m testing with, learning the gamsol, because that’s new to me. It’s not fully colored, either. But I’m having a lot of fun and several of the pages I can see being good enough to frame. The ballerina kitty, the southern belle kitty, and the cowboy boots kitties are my top three images. I’m definitely going to be doing something with those. The pictures are fun to color, the kitties are adorable, and there’s lots of variety. The price is fantastic (I paid just under $5) for this many pages. I’m very pleased with this book. My 17-year-old daughter has asked me to get one for her, too.

It's so cute!
I have a lot of Creative Haven books so I pretty much know what to expect and I was very happy with all the cute and detailed pics in this book. I can't wait to start on it! Their paper is very decent and their prices are as well. I love it!

Lovely pictures!
I am really impressed with this book and glad I picked up two copies. Even though I'm quickly tiring of the "doodle art"-inspired adult coloring book trend, this book isn't doesn't take the pattern designs so overboard that the pictures look overly busy with excess paterns. A nice balance. Each page will probably take at least an evening to nicely color, but aren't so over-done that each one will take weeks. The images are printed on single-sided, perforated pages. The paper quality is decent weight, but fairly smooth. So far, soft core colored pencils (I'm using Castle Art 120-count set) work great. I've sparingly used a Caran D'Ache full bright blending pencil and had no issues. I haven't tried my smaller set of Prismacolor Premiere pencils on this paper yet, but don't foresee any issues with using them. For markers, alcohol markers like Sharpies (I'm using ultra fine) and Art 101 Perma Marker work well, but bleed through the other side (hence single-sided prints and removable pages). Avoid water-based markers because they cause the paper to ball up and peel (I tried Crayola Signature Brush & Detail Dual-Tip Markers and Art 101 Felteez). Unless one is going to prepare the paper with geoso (check YouTube, there's at least one video about using gesso on coloring pages), watercolor pencils probably aren't a great idea here, even using water brush pens. I didn't have much gel pen bleed through, but the only set I have is Aen Art 30-count set (the ones advertised as having 40% more ink). I've only been using gel pen for smaller accent areas. My one quibble with this book comes from a comparison issue. The Creative Haven Groovy Mandalas book (copyright date 2017) contains a few blank pages. Good "test areas" for media types. If this this book had that, I could have pre-tested fine-tip, water-based markers on a page. I would have instantly realized they were a no-no and not messed my first page. I didn't have Groovy Mandalas on hand to test. I don't know why Dover Publications switched gears. Maybe people complained about the blank pages.

Adorable
A birthday gift for a cat lover and someone who just started adult coloring. The pictures are so detailed and cute. She loved it and I thought it was well worth the price.
